CMS Wire – Can Everyone in the Hadoop Market Win?

Big data wins aren’t about which vendor is better than the next or which analytics provider offers the best algorithms.

”Hadoop is transformative,” Hortonworks President Herb Cunitz told the crowd at theHadoop Summit this week in San Jose, Calif.  It’s not an experiment. It’s not a technology for one application, he explained. “It transforms business models and creates new business models,” he said, adding that’s it’s not a “winner take all” one-vendor game.

There are a seemingly endless number of vendors in each category and more and more coming out of stealth each week.

At the end of the day the third platform is all about “Community” it seems. While we can’t provide that latest on all of them, here are some announcements we took notice of this week.  – Read “Cloudwick and Pepperdata Team Up” on CMS Wire

Cloudwick Launches Cloudwick Insight™ for Hadoop Powered by Pepperdata, Assessment Service for Big Data Clusters

SAN JOSE, California – Hadoop Summit – June 9, 2015 Cloudwick, the leading enterprise Open Source Systems Integrator and Managed Service Provider to the Global 1000, announced at Hadoop Summit today its newest service, called Cloudwick Insight™ for Hadoop. Cloudwick Insight™ for Hadoop is an assessment service that uses Pepperdata, the leader in Apache Hadoop and Spark performance optimization, to analyze Hadoop jobs by CPU, RAM, disk I/O, and network utilization.

Hadoop doesn’t monitor or control the usage of disk I/O and network at all; jobs that saturate disks or network can interfere with other jobs and slow them down significantly. Cloudwick Insight for Hadoop overcomes this challenge by allowing Cloudwick to assess and recommend how to optimize performance on all facets of Hadoop performance, including CPU, memory, disk I/O, and network by user, job and task, in real time.

“No matter how much you optimize individual jobs and tune your cluster using Hadoop parameters, Hadoop just won’t let you achieve the kind of throughput needed to be competitive,” said Mani Chhabra, Cloudwick CEO and founder. “Global 1000 enterprises rely on Cloudwick to maintain Cloudera and Hortonworks clusters. Cloudwick Insight for Hadoop helps us deliver and provide our clients with visibility in order to get maximum performance.”

“Cloudwick has a fantastic reputation and reach in the big data space, so we’re excited about the new Cloudwick Insight for Hadoop service rollout,” said Sean Suchter, CEO and cofounder of Pepperdata. “Cloudwick’s expertise combined with Pepperdata’s visibility will give Global 1000 organizations actionable insight into maximizing the performance of their Hadoop clusters.”

Cloudwick Selects CDAP, Cask Data App Platform, to Accelerate Enterprise Hadoop Development

SAN JOSE, California – Hadoop Summit – June 9, 2015 Cloudwick, the leading enterprise Open Source Systems Integrator and Managed Service Provider to the Global 1000, and Cask, the pioneer empowering developers for Hadoop, today announced a strategic partnership. Cloudwick has trained and certified its enterprise Hadoop developers on CDAP, the Cask Data App Platform, to more rapidly build applications and deliver high value integrated Hadoop development for Cloudwick’s enterprise clients.

Hadoop is excellent in terms of its ability to scale cost-effectively, but it’s not an easy technology for current IT pros to learn, and the shortage of skills has slowed its adoption. The learning curve for new developers is steep and the time required to deliver advanced production applications can be significant. It’s an environment ripe for a partnership between Cloudwick and Cask: Cloudwick provides the expertise and people while Cask provides the platform and capabilities to simplify and accelerate the development of solutions on Hadoop.

“Cloudwick provides the Global 1000 with open source systems integration services built using todays leading open source distributions from Cloudera, Hortonworks, MapR, DataStax and Databricks on-premise and in the cloud. Today’s enterprise open source needs are evolving,” said Mani Chhabra, founder and CEO of Cloudwick. “The possibilities for applications built on Hadoop are endless, and Cask provides Cloudwick’s developers with a better way to develop these applications quickly and more easily. We’re looking forward to using CDAP to reduce development time and cost for our customers.”

“Considering Cloudwick’s obvious leadership in the systems integration space, this is a great development for enterprises, vendors and developers alike,” said Jonathan Gray, CEO of Cask. “Cask gives developers better ways to build and deliver value-added big data applications. Given the expertise and experience of Cloudwick’s developers and the company’s impressive client list, our partnership will make the value propositions of Cask accessible to an extremely wide audience considering the company’s reach.”

The partnership comes on the heels of Cloudwick’s recent recognition in Outsourcing Gazette as one of the 25 Most Promising Big Data Outsourcing (April-May 2015) and Cask’s recent recognition by CRN as one of the 100 leading big data vendors.
